Police have arrested a Suffolk man and charged him with multiple felonies in connection with a drive-by shooting into a home early Tuesday morning.

Roderick Lee Bellamy, 26, of the 1000 block of Blythewood Lane, faces five different charges stemming from the incident, which police say started on Myrick Street when the victim stopped at Hoffler Apartments to pick up a female friend.

A vehicle then started following the couple, Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George said Wednesday, and the driver fired several shots with a handgun at the first vehicle as they traveled down the road.

George said that police report the vehicle soon got away, and the victim headed to his home on North 5th Street. Soon after arriving at home, though, he heard more shots outside.

Police arrested Bellamy later at Heritage Acres Apartments on Nansemond Parkway. He was charged with shooting at an occupied dwelling, shooting at an occupied vehicle, two counts of shooting from a vehicle and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“It appears the young lady in the car was the ex-girlfriend of the suspect,” George said.
