Chargers are perfect in conference

Isle of Wight senior Brandon Privette, left, made five three-pointers and scored 26 points in all as the Chargers (11-2, 5-0) beat Metro Conference opponent Hampton Christian 64-55 Monday evening in Hampton.

Isle of Wight’s boys basketball squad remained perfect in Metro Conference play Monday evening winning 64-55 at Hampton Christian.

The Chargers (11-2, 5-0) were led by leading scorer Brandon Privette who scored 26 points. Sophomore center Nathan Sivertson scored 23 points.

Isle of Wight got out to a 17-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. Privette hit three three-pointers in the first eight minutes and went on to drain five on the night. Privette, a senior guard, is averaging 23.5 points per game.

The Warriors closed to within 25-23 late in the first half. IWA stretched its lead out again as Sivertson, a 6-foot-5 center, scored, blocked a Warrior shot on the ensuing possession and scored again to give the Chargers a 29-23 halftime lead. IWA kept going to a 51-38 lead after three periods.

The Chargers are No. 8 in the state in this week’s VISAA (Virginia Independent School Athletic Association) Division 2 coaches poll. IWA hosts Metro rival Portsmouth Christian Friday at 7 p.m.
