Nostalgia for sale

The annual Suffolk Art League antiques show and sale is coming up next weekend, and nearly 40 dealers and vendors will be available to sell their wares at the show.

“Even if you’re not a real antiques person, you can still find the things sort of interesting and nostalgic,” said Linda Bunch, executive director of the Suffolk Art League. “You ought to find things that are of interest to pretty much anybody.”

The show will be held Feb. 26-27 at King’s Fork Middle School, 350 Kings Fork Road. The show lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5.

The antique show and sale is the art league’s only major fundraising event. It supports education programs, including visiting artist workshops in the schools, elementary student field trips to the Suffolk Art Gallery, student scholarships and more.

Bunch said the antiques show attracts hundreds of people annually to buy or just look.

“Even if you’re not looking for something, it’s always interesting to see things from the past,” she said. “You might find an object or something that you’ve been looking for or wanting for many years.”

The show will feature many returning vendors, including a vendors who can repair crystal, porcelain, ceramics and frames. Other returning dealers will sell silver, furniture, artwork, coins, collectibles and other items.

One notable new dealer, Bunch said, sells dolls.

“That is something we haven’t had for a while,” she said.

Visitors also will have the chance to buy a raffle ticket for a floral painting by John Taylor, a well-known local artist.

Food sales also will be available, including favorites Brunswick stew and barbecue.

Bunch invited everyone to come out to the show and see what’s available.

“It’s just sort of fascinating to see objects and things that people use,” Bunch said.
