Marie Mayfield, 82, of 4216 Pughsville Road, Suffolk, Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011 at Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, Va. She was a native of Nash County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Leroy Jones and Pearl Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Mayfield.

She was employed as a bus driver for Suffolk Public Schools. She was a member of Poplar Run Baptist Church and its senior choir.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Adell Peoples (William), of Suffolk, and Jo Ann White (James), of Chesapeake, Va.; four stepsons, Hermon Mayfield (Cornelia), Donald Mayfield (Marcell), Keith Mayfield, all of Suffolk, and Kevin Mayfield (Judy), of Chesapeake; one sister, Helen Knight, of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Calvin Evans, of Portsmouth, Va., and Atren Evans, of Richmond, Va.; devoted nephews, Garry Evins (Lynda), Terry Evins, both of Suffolk; grandson, Cris Peoples; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at Poplar Run Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. James Williams. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
