Mr. James Edward Outlaw, of Suffolk, Va., went to his Heavenly home on Wednesday morning, March 2, 2011. He was a native of Scotland Neck, N.C., and born on May 16, 1931 to the late Sherman Outlaw and Carrie Davis Outlaw McDonald. He retired from the A&P Tea Company and Wilson Pines Apartment Complex and was a longtime member of the Suffolk Boosters Club. A member of East End Baptist Church for over 50 years, he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, worked with the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed the annual men’s fishing trips.

James Outlaw is survived by his high school sweetheart, Ruth Woodruff Outlaw; two daughters, Sheila O. Cooper (Joe), of Woodbridge, Va.,; and Constance O. Hill (Dennis), of Prince George, Va.; five grandchildren, Dennis J. Hill Jr., of Woodbridge, Va.; LaTonya R. Cooper, of Woodbridge, Va.; Andreá M. Hill, of Richmond, Va.; Marcus D. Cooper (Shaneka), of Huntersville, N.C.; and Travis L. Hill, of Prince George County, Va. Three great-granddaughters, Brajè Hill, Kennedy and Reagan Cooper; a niece who was loved as a daughter, Gail V. Bess (AB), of Portsmouth, Va.; an uncle, David Outlaw; and his caregiver whom he loved as his grandson, Javon Wiggins, of Suffolk, Va.; three sister-in-laws, Evelyn V. Walker, Gloria Outlaw and Josephine Outlaw; one brother-in-law, Robert Lee Woodruff Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and very special and devoted neighbors.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd (Bay) Outlaw, Sherman (Sonny) Outlaw, and Clifton (Cliff) Outlaw.

Mr. Outlaw will be on view from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 at East End Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the East End Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of James Edward Outlaw.
