About 35 Oakland Elementary School students were involved in an accident today when their bus ran off the roadway on Kirk Road.

Twenty students were treated for minor injuries at Sentara Obici Hospital and released, according to Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw. Emergency medical responders evaluated students at the scene, transported one student by ambulance and sent 10 others by bus. Some families also brought students in on their own.

“It’s just bumps and minor stuff,” Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw said.

An SUV also was involved in the accident, Bradshaw said. The accident was reported at 3:30 p.m.

Kirk Road is north of Everets Road, near the Isle of Wight County line.

A Sentara spokesperson said Sentara BelleHarbour in North Suffolk also reported some families bringing students involved in the accident to that facility.
