Playwright seeks actors

Local actor and playwright John Holly is working on his next production and looking for actors to be in it.
Holly, who has twice played a construction worker in “Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames” when it came to Suffolk, has composed a play based on a song by gospel artist Shirley Caesar.
“Writing plays is something I like doing,” he said. “I like to write a play with a message.”
The message of his newest play is that no matter what people are going through, they can still come out of it.
“It’s to let people know that no matter what you got, what you’re going through, you can make it,” Holly said.
The main character in the play praises God, even through a number of circumstances, for the things that matter the most in life — God and a family.
“He has four sons, and not one time has he been down to the jailhouse to get any one of them out,” Holly said. “No matter what happened, he’s going to keep his four sons together.”
Holly also wrote a play in the 1990s that was performed at a local church.
The play features 11 speaking parts for men and women, as well as a few extra parts. Anybody who wants to perform a part in Holly’s play can call him at 610-5388. The date will be set once all the actors are chosen.
Holly added that the actors will be invited to make suggestions and changes in the script if they think of something that will improve the play. He also needs a director, since he’ll be in the play himself.
“Acting is what I like doing,” Holly said.
