L.L. White Sr., 83, of 2000 Hickorywood Drive, Suffolk, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Ollie White Sr. and Mary Vick White. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie A. White, and a son, Kenny White.

He was the former owner and operator of White’s Gulf Service Station and White’s Spur Convenience Store/Service Station in Suffolk. He later became the owner/operator of White’s Grocery, where he retired in 2008. He was a member of St. Mark’s A.M.E. Zion Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory: four daughters, Ellen J. Williams, of Norfolk, Va., Joyce Shands (Jackie) and Ellen M. White, both of Suffolk, Carolyn Matthews (Gerald), of Erwin, N.C.; five sons, Linwood L. White Jr., of Franklin, Charles White (Geraldine), of Norfolk, Phillip White, of Suffolk, Glenn White, of Portsmouth, Curtis White, of Suffolk; a former wife, Lillie V. Collins, of Suffolk; 33 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Petrina White Kamara (Sekou), of Florence, N.J.; one sister, Barbara White, of Georgia; four brothers, James White, Ollie White Jr. (Barbara), both of Suffolk, Phillip White, of Texas, and Edward Lee White (Leilan), of Delaware; a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, at St. Mark’s A.M.E. Zion Church, 817 McKinley Ave., Suffolk. Entombment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc., is handling the arrangements.
