HAMPTON — Two-time track champion C.E. Falk posted his first two wins of the 2011 campaign, sweeping the Budweiser Twin 50s for the Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars, the featured events of Saturday evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program at Langley Speedway.
In the first of the twin races, a caution flag on lap 47 set up a four-lap sprint to the finish. Falk was the leader, followed by Danny Edwards Jr. and Greg Edwards.
On the restart, Falk gained a one-length edge over Edwards Jr. By the end, Falk had increased his winning margin to three lengths over Danny Edwards Jr. Greg Edwards, Dean Shiflett and Mark Wertz completed the top five.
In the winner’s circle for the first time in ‘11, Falk said, “Man, it feels so great to be back. Had a long winter, a lot of changes. New race cars. New sponsor. Man, she was rolling tonight.”
With green-flag racing from lap 34 on, Falk won by half a straightaway over Paul DeBolt, who held off Greg Edwards for second.
“We started conserving fuel there at the end, man, like it’s the Coke 600 or something,” Falk said. “Great night for our team.”
“It was the best car I’ve had here in two years and that’s saying a lot,” he said.
In the evening’s other featured events:
In the 40-lap Pepsi Grand Stock race, Rodney Boyd inched ahead of Ricky Derrick at the finish line to claim his first victory of the season.
On lap 36, Derrick took the lead from Boyd. On lap 39, Boyd ducked below Derrick in Turn 2 and the two headed for the white flag side-by-side. Off the last corner, Boyd surged ahead and beat Derrick to the stripe by half a car-length.
Brad Hancock started on the pole and led all 25 laps to notch his second win of the year in the Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends race.
Casey Sipe took the lead on a restart at lap 11 and rolled to his first victory in a 30-lapper for the Standard Welding Pro Sixes, snapping Doug Warren’s unbeaten streak.
Tommy Sweeney was awarded the win in the Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Kart race. After two caution flags in the early going raised fuel mileage concerns, the race was trimmed from 20 to 19 laps.
Mike Ganoe drew the pole and led all the way to win a 50-lap contest for the Enduro division, the evening’s final feature.
