Farmers’ market in full swing

Two farmers’ markets — one in downtown, pictured, and one in North Suffolk — operate every week to provide shoppers with products from local farmers and vendors.

Suffolk residents looking for fresh, local vegetables, fruits and other homemade products know the benefits of Suffolk’s farmers’ markets.

Two farmers’ markets — one in downtown and one in North Suffolk — operate every week to provide shoppers with products from local farmers and vendors.

The Suffolk Farmers’ Market in downtown Suffolk will hold Family Fun Days on several upcoming weekends, including this Saturday. The downtown market operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

On upcoming Family Fun Days, there will be live entertainment and a petting zoo provided by the Teeny Tiny Farm.

The Bluenotes, a band composed of Suffolk emergency personnel, will provide the music on July 16 and Aug. 20. On July 23, the Ancient Men will play, and Joe Maniscalco will play on Aug. 6.

Launched in 2005, the Suffolk Farmers’ Market is located at Market Park at the intersection of Main and Prentis streets, just across from the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum.

Vendors there include Acorn Hill Farms Produce, Amelia’s Heirlooms, Apron Strings, B&H Produce, Black Silhouettes, Bonnie Munden, Breanna Fyffe, Cricket Hollow Farm, Green Pastures Farm, Growing Green Acres, Hardy Family Farm, Homemade Gourmet, JC3 Farms, Jones’ Originals Bath & Beauty, Noriega Farms, Oberweis Dairy, Peggy Davis, Perry Totes, Inda’s Sweet Creations, Wedgewood Farmers, and Westminster Community Garden.

The North Suffolk farmers’ market operates from 5 to 8:30 p.m. every Friday through July. It is located on Governors Pointe Drive off Bridge Road. Its vendors offer locally-grown produce, freshly baked bread, organic meat, seafood, baked goods, fresh eggs and homemade relishes, jellies and jams.
