Suffolk police have charged a woman with felony assault on a police officer after she allegedly ran over his foot during a traffic stop.

The incident occurred Thursday, when an officer stopped Sandra Delouis Johnson, 37, to issue her a summons for illegal tint on her windows.

“She became irate,” city spokeswoman Debbie George said. “She initially refused to sign the summons.”

After Johnson finally signed the ticket, George said, the officer was preparing to hand it to her when Johnson allegedly drove away, rolling over the officer’s foot.

The officer, Shane Sukowaski, gave chase and stopped her again, George said. She was charged with felony assault on a police officer and reckless driving, as well as the initial traffic infraction.

The officer was not seriously injured, George said.
