Vivian E. Cross, 80, of 1102 Portsmouth Blvd., Suffolk, Va., died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Hezekiah and Sarah Diggs. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Jake” Cross.

She graduated from East Suffolk High School. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the feeding ministry and home mission.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a sister, Doris Collier (William), of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Clifford H. Diggs, of Suffolk; nieces, Sandra Watkins (Shepherd), of Esmont, Va., and Gwendolyn Smith (Malcolm), of Hampton, Va.; nephews, Calvin Diggs, of Suffolk, Kenneth Harper (Jeannie) and Nicolas Harper and Gregory Harper, all of California; sister-in-law, Sadie Diggs, of Springfield Gardens, N.Y.; a goddaughter, Michelle Bailey (Vernon), of Suffolk; a host of other relatives and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Anthony Copeland officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
