Suffolk police have charged a Newport News man with attempting to take a picture up a woman’s skirt with a cell phone.
John Moses Burton, 34, of Morris Avenue in Newport News, has been charged with attempted unauthorized filming or photographing.
According to city spokeswoman Debbie George, the victim had been returning a movie at the Redbox in front of the Farm Fresh at 1401 N. Main St. on July 22. She noticed a man hanging out under the store’s canopy, George said.
When she left the video rental location, she left and observed the suspect following her, George said. She turned around, and he attempted to engage her in conversation, George said.
“He was very close to her and she could not see his hands,” George said. “He had his cell phone out and was bending over low to the ground.”
Police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s house Thursday, George added.
