Richard Ferdinand Whitfield Sr., 55, of 2802 E. Washington St., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011. He was born in Suffolk, Va., to the late Richard Allen Whitfield Jr. and Clarice Graves Whitfield on Oct. 21, 1955.
Richard is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley A. Whitfield, of Suffolk; three children, Terrell Copeland, of Suffolk, Dre’chir Whitfield, of Atlanta, and Richard Whitfield Jr., of Suffolk; three brothers, Supt. Felton Keith Whitfield (Chryalene), of Portsmouth, Fredrick Anthony Whitfield and Fritz A. Whitfield, (Tiffany), both of Suffolk; two sisters, Vivian Z. Whitfield and Venise L. Whitfield-Hyman (Eric), both of Suffolk; two aunts; three nieces; four nephews; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and many close family and friends.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A funeral will take place at Healing Chapel Baptist Church, 2375 Godwin Boulevard, on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
