Hampton edges Lady Storm

- Harper Birdsong led the Suffolk Lady Storm with eight points on Saturday, but Hampton beat Suffolk 17-12 in an Optima Girls Basketball Fall League game in Chesapeake.
Hampton edged the Suffolk Lady Storm, 17-12, giving Suffolk its second tight loss in two games at the start of the Optima Girls Basketball Fall League in Chesapeake on Saturday.
Harper Birdsong led the Lady Storm with eight points, five rebounds and one assist. Kaylee Boger had four rebounds and two points. Kara Lyles had four rebounds and two steals.
Suffolk gets to host this coming Saturday’s tripleheader at King’s Fork Middle School. Suffolk will face Newport News at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Optima Girls Basketball Fall League is for ages 11-14. Along with having basketball teams in each Hampton Roads city, the league teaches young girls about health and safety throughout the season.
