Franklin nonprofit organization Cover 3 Football, Inc. is sponsoring the first annual Striking Out Hunger charity co-ed softball tournament on Oct. 29-30 at Paul D. Camp Community College.
The tournament will raise money for Cover 3’s Feeding the Children division. Feeding the Children provides nutritious snacks and meals to boys and girls in after-school programs and day cares in Franklin, Suffolk, Southampton County, Greensville County, Sussex County, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Winchester.
Cover 3 Football was founded in 2009 by former Southampton High and NFL defensive lineman Greg Scott, who’s also an assistant coach for King’s Fork’s varsity football team.
The organization’s mission is to inspire and motivate youth to achieve their goals and conquer adversity through positive, personal and passionate coaching and mentoring.

The tournament will be three games guaranteed per team, with one warm-up game, then a double-elimination tournament. The entry fee is $200 per team. Balls are provided. In each game, each team can have a single “buy back” out for $10.
Along with the tournament games, there will be a Homerun Derby Saturday evening. A $5 donation gives a player two practice swings and five counted pitches in the Derby. There will be a limited, one-time buy back of $5 for another chance in the Derby.
