Police arrest, charge youth with gang participation

Suffolk police on Thursday charged six gang members, ages 11 to 17, with a series of 30 criminal charges.

Members of the Suffolk Police Department’s Neighborhood Enforcement Teams and the Special Investigation Unit executed four search warrants on the suspects’ downtown-area homes. Four alleged members were arrested.

Known as the “Lloyd Street Gang” or “LSG,” the gang is responsible for assaults by mob, brandishing firearms, assaults on three police officers, shopliftings and countless vandalism throughout the city, according to a press release from Debbie George, spokeswoman for the city.

The search warrants were executed at residences in the 1100 block of East Washington Street, 1200 block of Bethlehem Street, 300 block of North Fourth Street and 100 block of Nancy Drive. Police recovered firearms, narcotics and gang paraphernalia, George said.

The suspects’ charges are listed below. Their names cannot be released because of their ages, George said.

Suspect 1: age 16, charged with five counts of gang participation, one count of assault by mob, one count brandishing a firearm, three counts of assault and one count of resisting arrest

Suspect 2: age 17, charged with four counts of gang participation, one count assault by mob, one count assault on a police officer, two counts of assault, and one count of vandalism

Suspect 3: age 15, charged with one count of gang participation and one count assault by mob

Suspect 4: age 14, charged with one count gang participation, one count brandishing a firearm and one count assault

Suspect 5: age 11, charged with one count gang participation, one count assault on a police officer, one count petit larceny

Suspect 6: age 14, charged with one count petit larceny
