Raymond Turner

Raymond “Rock” Turner passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011. He was born to Neamon and Clarine Turner on Dec. 28, 1924. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Turner; two sons, William Raymond Turner and Claudius Levi Turner; two brothers, Waverly Turner, Harrell Turner and wife Orabel.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard located in Portsmouth, Va. in 1984. He was a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church and sung in the male chorus.
He is survived by four sons, Victor Turner (Sandria), of Modesto, Calif., Roy Turner, of Newport News, Va., Clyde Turner, of Arlington, Texas, and Gilliam Turner (Karen), of Felton, Del.; two daughters, Lana Wilson, of Jersey City, N.J., Judy Taylor (Clyde Jr.), of Carrsville, Va.; and the acknowledgment of a daughter, Yvette King (Bernard) of Suffolk; one sister, Louise Vann; one brother, Leroy Turner; brother-in-law, John Vann, three sisters-in-law, Rose Turner, Francis Turner and Dorothy Turner; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, several grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Pulaski Baptist Church in Carrsville, Va., officiated by Dr. Robert Rodgers. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Church Cemetery. A wake will be held on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, Va. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
