Nita Fry Meece, a longtime resident of Virginia Beach and Suffolk, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in East St. Louis, Ill., and is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Mildred Wheatley, and a beloved daughter, Terrie Lynn Fry.
Surviving are her loving husband, Don Meece, of Virginia Beach; her three children, Shirley and husband, Rick Poss, of Stafford, Va.; Rebecca and husband, Chuck Long, of Roanoke, Va.; and Robert and wife, Conniejean Fry, of Henderson, Texas; her sisters, Betty and husband, Don Collins, of Seattle, Wash.; Jan and husband, Nick Ingrao, of Williamsburg, Va.; her brother, Jimmy and wife, Ada Wheatley, of Fifty Lakes, Minn. She also left wonderful memories to three special young ladies, her granddaughters, Amy, Emily and Tori.
A dedicated proponent of higher education and possessing a love for learning new things, she was a graduate of ODU, receiving a BSN degree and later returned to college and graduated with a Masters of Hospital Administration. She held a Financial Security License, a Private Investigator License and a Compliance License in the Security Industry field. An extremely successful Realtor who worked for several companies in the Tidewater area, she held Real Estate and Broker licenses in both North Carolina and Virginia. She received many awards, accolades and was a multiple recipient of both The Million Dollar Club and The Circle of Excellence Awards. She was actively involved in real estate until the time of her death.
Her recipe for life was simple: Get as much education as you can; work as hard as possible at everything you do; love others with your whole heart; laugh often; cook great food and share it with your family. Nita shared herself with us and will be forever missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday at noon in Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. Friends are welcome to visit the family after the service at 3937 Dunneman Drive, Virginia Beach, Va.
