The annual Womanless Beauty Pageant fundraiser is returning, and the group putting it on is seeking contestants for the show.
The contest, which raises funds for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, traditionally has been put on by the Nansemond River Pilot Club. But the club voted this year to forgo it in favor of other fundraisers, so a few members of the club are doing it on their own.
Men are needed to dress in women’s clothes, perform talents and answer interview questions. The event will once again by emceed by Dave Parker with music provided by Ray Bennett.
“It’s going to be basically the same event with the same players,” said Susan Blair, one of the organizers. “We just need to get contestants.”
The show will take place at Wilroy Baptist Church on Feb. 18, Blair said. This year’s theme is “Curves for Cures.”
“We’re kind of coveting it, if you will,” Blair said. “It’s a great fundraiser, and it’s great fun.”
The show typically raises money through ticket sales, “tip” buckets for the contestants, 50/50 raffle sales, a silent auction and more. Dinner also is served every year.
