SUFFOLK — Guy Alton “Pookie” Duke Sr., 76, passed away Dec. 3, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Nansemond County, Va.  He was the son of the late George A. and Evelyn Babb Duke and predeceased by sons Roger Chipman, Samuel R. Duke and Guy A. Duke Jr. and brothers Chester Ray and Hilton Lee. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Guy retired after 43 years as owner and operator of Guy Duke Roofing and Guttering of All Kinds. His love of family, fishing, gardening, martin birds and all of nature is well known.

Guy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary E. Duke, daughter and son-in-law, Lucille D. and Eddie V. Humphrey; sons and daughters-in-law, Glen D. and Janet E. Chipman and John C. and Linda C. Duke, all of Suffolk; sister Brenda Jenkins; brothers David and Leslie Duke; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Parr Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Kenneth Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence.
