Mr. Howard Washington was summoned to his eternal home by God’s heavenly angels from his residence on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011. He was born on Sept. 14, 1936 in Orangeburg County, S.C., to the late Tom Washington and Carrie “Maggie” Brown Washington.
Howard was a devoted member of Tabernacle Christian Church and was employed by Lipton Tea for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Mt. Vernon Lodge # 48.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Leola “Betty Lou” Washington.
Howard leaves lasting and cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Bettie Irby Washington; three children, Howard Reginald Washington (Jean), Beverly Shawnee’ Washington-Williams (Wayne), and Darryl J. Washington (Renee); one brother, Robert “Morg” Washington; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Washington will be on view at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 8 from noon to 7 p.m. The family will receive guests at their residence, 119 S. 10th St. at all other times. A celebration of life service will take place at Tabernacle Christian Church on Friday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m., and he will be laid to rest at Meadowbrook Memorial Garden Cemetery.
