During the past month, TowneBank employees and clients signed up to sponsor 350 children through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. On Nov. 29, a small group of these volunteers delivered the gifts to the Salvation Army for distribution from its warehouse in Virginia Beach.

“This is an overwhelmingly rewarding experience,” said Carol Hernandez, vice president and director of senior partners for the bank. “Participating in this program is very personal for me, and I am thrilled that so many TowneBank family members have joined the cause.”

Each volunteer sponsor was asked to donate a full outfit, including a shirt, a pair of pants (or a dress for girls) and a pair of shoes. Many also chose outerwear for the upcoming cold months, as well as age-appropriate toys.

TowneBank organized an online sign-up system, making it easy to participate, and gifts were collected at their Member Service Center in Suffolk.

“TowneBank’s involvement this year has been absolutely amazing,” says Lt. Sarah Steele with the Salvation Army of Portsmouth. “Their donations make up a significant portion of the gifts we’ll be distributing to 1,200 angels on Dec. 13. The children are going to feel blessed beyond measure.”
