Ms. Doris Lucy Copeland, of Suffolk, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the age of 91 years old. Doris was born on May 28, 1920, in Suffolk to the late Robert Green and Lucy Drew Green and was the second youngest of 10 children.

At an early age, Doris accepted Christ and was an active member of Little Mount Zion Baptist Church until her illness. Doris devoted her life to caring for her family. She always had a very positive outlook on life. She was very loving and compassionate to her family, friends and everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Copeland; six brothers and two sisters. Doris Lucy Copeland leaves to cherish her memory, six daughters, Doris Betty Jean Baskerville, of Suffolk, Carolyn Bland, of Chesapeake, Barbara Sutton, of Philadelphia, Penn., Claretta Russell, also of Chesapeake, Stella Cook, of Butner, N.C., and Lucinda Copeland, also of Chesapeake along with one brother, Roger Green, of Detroit, Mich. She will be missed by her nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Carver Memorial Cemetery, 2320 E. Washington St., Suffolk, on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at 3 p.m. Visitation at Harris Funeral Home, Inc. will be on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Professional services have been entrusted to Harris Funeral Home, Inc., 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk.
