Suffolk police are seeking the identity of a man who reportedly attempted to rape a homeless woman on Friday.
City spokeswoman Debbie George said the 54-year-old woman, who told police she is homeless, was in the area of the Food Lion in the 1000 block of Portsmouth Boulevard about 1 p.m. when she accepted a ride with a black male driving a pickup truck.
“As they were riding along, the individual fondled her and asked her for sex,” George said.
The woman refused and asked the man to stop so she could get out. When he refused to stop, the woman leaped from the truck while it was traveling about 30 to 40 miles per hour, George said.
She suffered minor injuries to her face, legs and foot, George said.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a muscular build and braids in his hair.
The woman reported the pickup truck he was driving was small and either orange or green in color. No make or model information was available.
