Senior Ransheda Jennings (King’s Fork) made key plays offensively and defensively in the final seconds to help Chowan to a 54-49 win at UNC-Pembroke Wednesday evening.

Score: Chowan senior Ransheda Jennings scored 15 points and had an important steal with 0:10 left in the game as CU won 54-49 at UNC Pembroke Wednesday night. Jennings is averaging 13.1 points per game.

Jennings, a 5-foot-7 guard, totaled 15 points, eight rebounds and six steals. After a blocked shot a few seconds earlier and with CU leading 52-49, Jennings came up with a steal with 0:10 left leading to Jennings scoring a lay-up.

“Our defense won the game for us,” said CU head coach Patrick Mashuda.

“When you put such an active defender like Ransheda on the ball-handler late in the game, it disrupts the entire offense at that point,” Mashuda said.

Jennings is averaging 13.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

Chowan (4-5) hosts Bloomfield on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Cincinnati junior guard JaQuon Parker (King’s Fork) turned his first start of the season into 14 points as the Bearcats won 78-58 at Wright State Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio.

Parker made 2-of-3 three-point shots and grabbed six rebounds.

Parker had played in one game prior to Wednesday’s tilt. Four Bearcat players were suspended for their roles in a fight in the closing seconds of a Cincinnati loss to crosscity rival Xavier on Saturday.

The Bearcats (6-3) host Radford Saturday afternoon.

Freshman guard Ashton Moore (Nansemond River) led The Citadel in scoring for the second game this season, scoring 18 points, but the Bulldogs lost 88-69 at Charles-ton Southern Wednesday night.

Moore, in the starting five for the Bulldogs, was 8-for-11 from the field, including 2-for-3 on three-pointers.

Moore’s averaging 10.0 points per game and is shooting 44.7 percent on threes.

The Citadel plays at James Madison Monday and travels to Denver to play on Thursday.
