The Orioles played T-ball in Bennett’s Creek Little League last spring. The Norfolk Tides, the triple-A farm team for the Baltimore Orioles, are inviting leagues to enter a contest to win a field makeover by the Tides groundskeepers. The deadline for organizations to enter is Feb. 15.

The same work and expertise that goes into making Norfolk’s Harbor Park one of the finest fields in professsional baseball will go into three local little league fields thanks to the Norfolk Tides.

The Tides, the triple-A farm team of the Baltimore Orioles, is holding a contest and the winning leagues will get a renovated, upgraded playing surface, along with improvements to existing dugouts, from Tide groundskeepers and front office staff.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the Tides to give back to the Hampton Roads community,” said Norfolk Tides general manager Joe Gregory.

Organizations interested in having the Tides makeover their field can enter the contest by submitting a picture of their field and a short letter explaining why their league should receive this enhancement. The photo and letter should be e-mailed to Heather McKeating, director of community relations for the Tides, at hmckeating@norfolktides.com by Feb. 15.

The contest winners will be determined by a fan vote on the Tides Facebook page.

“Little league baseball is a fantastic way for children to learn the joys of the game of baseball while participating in an activity that is both healthy and fun,” Gregory said.

“We’re extremely happy to do our part in helping Hampton Roads little leaguers have facilities they can be proud of,” he said.
