The city is moving along in the process of reviewing the Comprehensive Plan, and it hopes to receive public input on the plan.
At a City Council meeting last week, Planning Director Scott Mills said the city will seek the opinion of various interest groups during the process.
“A big part of the comprehensive plan is public input,” he said.
State law mandates that localities have a comprehensive plan and review it every five years. The document provides guidance on a wide array of planning issues, such as zoning, development and transportation.
“We’ve had a lot of change in the housing market” in the past five years, Mills said.
He hopes to include members of the Planning Commission and the Economic Development Authority in the process, as well as stakeholders from agricultural, environmental, business and development interests, he said.
“Much of the city is rural in nature, and that’s unique,” Mills said, explaining why environmental interests should be invited to participate.
He said the city is getting close to being able to announce the award of a contract to a consulting firm to help with the project.
“It’s a long process with a lot of moving parts,” Mayor Linda T. Johnson said.
