NRHS alum is designated hitter at Mount Olive College

Mount Olive College junior Jermaine Berry, a Nansemond River High School alumnus, made his presence felt on the Trojans baseball team in a season-opening three-game sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne last weekend.

In the opener on Saturday, Berry was the designated hitter, going 1-for-3 with an RBI as the Trojans rallied for a 9-5 win. In the finale Sunday, Berry added an RBI-single in a 16-1 rout.

 

Washington (Md.) won eight times to help defeat McDaniel 57-38 in Centennial Conference men’s swimming action on Saturday.

Bryan Nuckles of Suffolk, a Nansemond-Suffolk Academy alumnus, paced the Green Terror (2-8, 0-6) with a pair of victories.

Austin Yocum, James Ray and Gregory Lee led the Shoremen (4-6, 1-5 CC) with three wins each.

Nuckles was victorious in both sprints, taking the 50 free in a time of 21.72 and the 100 free in a time of 49.63. He also anchored the 200 free relay with a 21.02 split, nearly rallying the foursome to a win. McDaniel finished with a time of 1:31.23, just 0.39 seconds behind Lee, Ray, Steven Bilinksi and Yocum.
