Mount Olive players stand out

Mount Olive College junior Andrea Jones, a Nansemond River High School alumna, scored 19 points each as the Trojans regained the top spot in Conference Carolinas Easter Division with wins over Pfeiffer and Converse last week.

Against Converse Saturday afternoon, Jones scored 19 points, including 15 during a 26-0 run in the first half that propelled Mount Olive to an 82-46 win. She added five assists and a career-high seven steals in the win.

Against Pfeiffer, she grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists in a 73-60 win.

Senior Katie Devenuto, a Lakeland alumna, has been a key contributor for the Mount Olive College softball team this season.

Against Mercyhurst, Devenuto was 1-for-3 with a run scored as the Trojans held off a late rally in a 12-9 win. She also singled and stole a base in the opener of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday against Wingate University, she delivered a pinch RBI-single and scored in the team’s doubleheader loss.
