A tornado watch issued Friday afternoon expired this evening.

As a precaution, Suffolk Public Schools  canceled all afternoon and evening activities for Friday. In addition, the city  canceled recreation league basketball games at Creekside and Mack Benn Jr. recreation facilities, youth indoor soccer games at Oakland Recreation Center and the “Unplugged: Teen Talent” event at East Suffolk Recreation Center. All the activities will be rescheduled.

The tornado watch covered nearly the entire state, as well as all but the extreme western parts of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

On Saturday, winds are expected to gust up to 40 miles per hour. A high of 52 is forecast.
