A 17-year-old male student was charged with possession of a weapon on school property after police say he was found with a knife at Nansemond River High School.
The 3-inch lock blade knife was in the student’s pocket and was not used in a threatening manner, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.
The school division’s practice when students are found with weapons on school property is to suspend them with a recommendation for expulsion.
