Berry earns Mount Olive honor

Mount Olive College junior Jermaine Berry, a Nansemond River High School alumnus, has been named the school’s Student-Athlete of the Week after four multi-hit games in which he helped the 14th-ranked Trojans extend their winning streak to seven games.
Berry was 12-for-22 in sweeping Virginia State, California (Pa.) and Coker College. His lead-off homer in the seventh inning against California helped the Trojans rally for a 16-14 win. Against Coker, Berry was 7-for-13, including a career-high six RBIs in a 17-3 win in Saturday’s finale.
For the season, Berry is hitting .429 and is the top 10 in Conference Carolinas in runs (31), hits (36), RBI (27), on-base percentage (.479) and slugging percentage (.631).
