A pair of 50-lappers in the late-model stock car division headlines a jam-packed eight-race program Saturday, as Langley Speedway continues its 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season.
In addition to the Late Model Twins, Saturday’s feature slate includes Super Streets (Twin 20s); Super Trucks (25 laps); Pro Sixes (30 laps); HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps); and Enduros (40 laps).
With second- and eighth-place finishes in Twin 100s last Saturday at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, C.E. Falk has moved back up to third in this week’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national top 500.
He trails Anthony Anders, who picked up his first win of the year last weekend at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina, and Nate Monteith. Matt Bowling and Deac McCaskill round out the top five.
Other Langley regulars in the national rankings include Greg Edwards (42nd), Wes Falk (82nd), Mark Wertz (87th), Casey Wyatt (89th), Terry Carroll (96th), Danny Edwards Jr. (143rd), Shayne Lockhart (157th), Jeff Shiflett (216th), Duane Shreeves (232nd), J.T. Jackson (339th), Gary Weeks (391st), Nick Smith (469th), Kevin Cunningham (497th) and Jeremy Grogg (500th).
In the Virginia state standings, Falk has regained the top spot, moving ahead of Bowling. Peyton Sellers is third, followed by Lee Pulliam and Greg Edwards. Wes Falk is eighth, while Wyatt and Wertz check in at 10th and 11th, respectively. Carroll and Danny Edwards Jr. are 16th and 17th, respectively.
Greg Edwards holds a 14-point lead over Wyatt in the Langley Late Model standings, 169-155. Wes Falk is third, four behind Wyatt, while Wertz and Lockhart complete the top five.
Renno Marchetti IV will try to extend his four-race unbeaten streak in the Super Street Twins. He leads John Pereira by 10 in the current rankings, 78-68. Larry Venable and Dale Parro are deadlocked for third, at 67. Sean Calway is fifth, one point behind Venable and Parro.
Super Truck leader Robbie Davis brings a two-race winning streak into Saturday’s 25-lapper. He is 11 points up on Troy Turnage in the standings, 128-117. Defending division champ Tommy Nixon is third, two behind Turnage. Chris Bechtel is fourth, while Bill Wallace and Jacob Carr are tied for fifth.
Steve Williams, the most recent race winner, leads the Pro Six points rundown by one over Bobby Hall, 73-72. Nelson Moody, Landon Florian and Anthony Perez complete the top five.
In the Champ Kart standings, Charlie-Ray Lorah enjoys a 10-point advantage over Shawn Gervais, 77-67. Lorah has posted two wins and a runner-up finish in three starts. Chris O’Brien, the 2011 champ, is third, followed by Aaron Leach and Jake Harberts.
Two-time race winner Richard Quinn holds a one-point edge over Alex Floroff, last week’s winner, in the Enduro standings, 77-76. Larry Drommerhausen is third, followed by Derrick Boggess. Robert Larkin and Dave Wedding are tied for fifth.
Langley Speedway received some national attention last week in USA Today’s travel section. In an article entitled “10 great places for small-town NASCAR racing,” veteran motorsports journalist Dick Berggren identified Langley as one of his favorite venues. Berggren is a familiar face in the pits on Fox Sports’ NASCAR Sprint Cup broadcasts, as well as the executive editor of Speedway Illustrated.
In describing Langley’s allure, Berggren noted, “You walk in there and you’re literally walking into motorsports history.”
