Executive Director Linda Bunch said that the league, with assistance from the Fine Arts Commission and other supporters, has tried to keep costs down as much as possible.

“If that’s ($1 per class) still too much, we can be very accommodating,” she said.

“Alicia Johnson has a great set of programs planned for the summer, working with a lot of different materials.”

Art camps, titled COLOR EXPLOSIONS!, run Aug. 6-10, 10 a.m. to noon for ages 6 to 9 and 1-3 p.m. for ages 8 to 12, and will be taught by King’s Fork Middle School’s Sandee Darden.

“She’s going to do lots of really fun things with color as the theme,” Bunch said.

Art camps cost $45 for league members and $55 for non-members, including all materials and a daily light snack, with registrations required by July 30.

Bunch will instruct the Young Artists workshop for ages 3 to 5, June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15 from 2-3 p.m.

Students will develop their natural creativity using a variety of materials while exploring a different theme each month.

The deadline for registration, costing $6 for league members and $8 for non-members per session, is one week prior.

Bunch said the Art in Your Pocket workshop for ages 9 to 15, from 10 a.m. to noon on July 10 with instructor Kathy Rose, a volunteer with Suffolk Public Schools, will teach how to create “artist trading cards” which can be traded like baseball cards.

The deadline for registration, costing $15 for league members and $20 for non-members, is July 3.

The deadline for registration, costing $25 for league members and $30 for non-members per workshop, is one week prior to each workshop.

Paper/surface and reference materials are included, but students must bring soft pastels or pay another $8 for supplies.

Emily Dalton will instruct quilting workshops on Saturdays, June 2-23, July 7-28, Aug. 4, 11 and 25, and Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon.
