Mr. Spencer L. Fillhart I, of Myrtle Street, Suffolk, Va., passed on June 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 16, 1952, to William F. and Norma Nieswonder Fillhart in Fostoria, Ohio. After 24 years of service, he retired from the U.S. Navy. Most recently, Spencer was employed with Napa Auto Parts as a warehouse manager for five years.

Spencer was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Linda and Jenny. He is survived by his wife, Dalene Fillhart, of Suffolk, Va.; one daughter, Tonya Fillhart, of Suffolk, Va.; three sons, Spencer L. Fillhart II (Cindy), of Franklin, Va., George Fillhart, Dave Rawles, of Suffolk, Va.; three brothers, Richard Fillhart, Mark Fillhart and Alan Fillhart; nine grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many caring friends.

At the request of the family, donations may be given to the American Cancer Society in memory of Spencer Fillhart I. A memorial service will be held on June 29 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. On June 30, there will be a celebration of life to remember the good times beginning at 3 p.m. at the family’s home.
