Shawn Balluzzo moved out front on lap 35 and survived two late restarts to bag his 11th win of the season in the Modifieds class, the featured event of Saturday evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program at Langley Speedway.

Jimmy Humblet started on the pole, at 84.688 mph, and dominated in the early going, pulling away by as much as a full straightaway. Humblet’s margin vanished, though, when the first caution flag appeared on lap 33.

On the ensuing restart, second-place Mike Rudy chose to launch from the outside lane, alongside the leader. Back under green, Humblet quickly dispensed with Rudy, but soon had his hands full with Balluzzo. After battling for a couple of laps, Balluzzo bypassed Humblet on lap 35 as they sped into Turn 3.

Two laps later, Balluzzo had opened a three-length edge. A pair of caution flags on lap 43 bunched the field for a dash to the checkers. Balluzzo fought off Humblet on the final restart and drove away to win by four car-lengths.

Matt Slye was third to the line, followed by Rudy and Hunter Slayton.

On the hunt for his sixth Modifieds title, Balluzzo will carry a 17-point lead over Rudy into Saturday’s points finale.
