Suffolk police have made an arrest in a burglary that occurred on June 30 at the Kangaroo Express gas station on Wilroy Road.

Akia Lamar Scott, 21, of the 1100 block of Nansemond Parkway, was arrested on charges of burglary, grand larceny, larceny with intent to sell, obtain money by false pretenses greater than $200, and destruction of property greater than $1,000.

Scott allegedly burglarized the gas station during a storm-related power outage between midnight and 4:25 a.m. that morning, according to a city news release.

The suspect stole scratch-off lottery tickets and was captured on surveillance cameras in another store cashing in the winning tickets. Police released an image of the suspect in July in hopes of someone being able to identify him.

The store had extensive damage to the front display window, city officials added.

Scott is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg, the news release stated.
