Jennings Bryan Spinks

Jennings Bryan “Sonny” Spinks, 75, of 1400 Ohio St., Waynesboro, Va., died 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Augusta Health.
He was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Roanoke, Va., son of the late Dr. Jennings Bryan Spinks and Nell Marshall Spinks, of Galax, Va.
Following graduation from Madison College with a degree in music, he served with the U.S. Army Reserves. He graduated from William and Mary College with a master’s degree in secondary administration. Mr. Spinks became a band director for Smithfield High School, and later assistant principal of Forest Glen High School in Nansemond County, Va. After retirement, he and his wife opened Spinks’ Antique Restoration in Lynchburg, Va., and later, Floral Artistry and Spinks’ Antiques.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Hugh Jackson; mother-in-law, Margree Jackson; brother-in-law, Michael Jackson; and sister-in-law, Laura Jackson.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 52 years, Peggy Jackson Spinks, of Waynesboro; two sons, Jay M. Spinks and his wife, Kathy, of Cascade, Md., with their children: Ashley, Garrett and Hannah Spinks; Hugh B. Spinks and his wife, Dorothy, of Waynesboro; two brothers-in-law, Hillman Jackson, Hugh B. Jackson and his wife, Frances, with their children: Beverly, Inga and Emily; his sister-in-law, Pamela Jackson and her children: Stuart and Cameron Jackson; and his loving cat, “Grady.”
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, in the chapel of McDow Funeral Home by Ramona Bosserman.
