The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday was asked to investigate an alleged case of embezzlement at the school district, according to the department’s daily log.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kristin Wilda said Friday the case is under investigation.

“We have no information to release at this time,” Wilda said.

“We cannot comment, because it is a personnel matter and it’s being investigated by the sheriff’s department,” School district spokesperson Kenita Bowers said.

If charges are filed, the information will be made public, she said.

Hardy District School Board Member Herb DeGroft said he knew nothing about the investigation, but planned to look into it.
