A Suffolk man who shot his 3-year-old son during an argument with the boy’s mother was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison on Monday.
Michael Anthony Goodman Jr., 23, pleaded guilty to the shooting in November. It happened June 15 at the woman’s apartment building in the 900 block of White Marsh Road.
Goodman shot the boy in the shoulder during a dispute about Goodman’s son being in the presence of another man, according to evidence in the case. He produced a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the other man and fired at the group at the top of the stairs while he was standing at the bottom of the stairs.
Goodman and the other man then drove the boy to the hospital.
Goodman later tried to claim the boy shot himself after finding the gun in his vehicle. However, the spent cartridge casing in the hallway, as well as witnesses, told the true story.
Goodman was sentenced to 25 years in prison, but all but six years and 11 months were suspended.
