Karen Jane Houston, 65, of Chesapeake, passed away May 1, 2013.
She was born in Elizabeth City, N.C. to the late Benjamin F. Hewitt and Zula Mae Hewitt. Karen was an administrator and teacher at Chesapeake Christian Academy. She loved teaching, and taught for over 24 years. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Navy Relief and the Red Cross.
Karen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Russell Lee Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie M. and Woodrow Williams Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen D. and Deborah A. Houston; grandchildren, James T. Green Jr. and wife, Stephanie M. Green, Jessica E. Houston, and Alyssa T. Houston; great-grandchild, Emilyn Green; sisters and brothers-in-law, Zelda and Larry Babb and Thelma and Danny Morton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, May 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434, with the Rev. John McCloud officiating. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
