Beulah M. Bynum

On July 31 2013, God called Beulah Mae Bynum to eternal rest, while surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on Feb. 4, 1930, to the late Charlie Greene and Sudie Majette Greene, she was a native of Suffolk.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Bynum; daughter Sudie Ellen Brown; grandson Kevin Blanco; and son-in-law, Montie Ridley Sr.
Beulah was a faithful past member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Suffolk, where she served for many years as the church’s secretary under the leadership of the Rev. D.W. Lamb. She was “Mama” and “Grandma” to many and will always be remembered for her love, patience and care for all children, not just her own. She retired from the Norfolk Naval Ship Yard Portsmouth after 28 years of service.
A faithful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her seven daughters, Beverly A. Ridley, Myrna J. White, Sharon D. Blanco, Deborah A. Rodgers (Charles Sr.), Colette A. Winborne, Karen D. Lewis (Alvin) and Carmen D. Smith (Ronald); 17 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two nieces and one nephew; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Mahan Street officiated by the Rev. Dr. Steven Blunt, pastor. Interment will be at Carver Mausoleum. The family will be gathering at 832 Haskins Drive on Aug. 2 and 3. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
