Local scholarships awarded

Metropolitan Church Federal Credit Union recently awarded college scholarships totaling $2,250 to several students.

  • Amir Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Corey Carter, is a graduate of North Point High School in Waldorf, Md. He will attend Salisbury University and major in communications.
  • Marquis Lassiter, the son of Monica Lassiter, is a graduate of First Baptist Christian School in Suffolk and will attend Liberty University.
  • Chyrell McAllister, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Algie McAllister of Suffolk, is a graduate of King’s Fork High School and will attend Paul D. Camp Community College’s nursing program.

Metropolitan Church Federal Credit Union was formally chartered in 1949 to serve members of Metropolitan Baptist Church and their relatives. The field of membership has grown to include additional churches — St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, New First Baptist Church and Antioch United Church of Christ. As part of its mission of “People Helping People,” the scholarship program was established to provide financial support for young members entering college.
