Local student named to honors college

Takia Britt of Suffolk is one of 39 new members inducted into the Honors College program at Chowan University. Britt is a sophomore majoring in allied health biology.

The ceremony took place in Vaughan Auditorium on Sept. 15.

The Honors College is designed to offer challenging opportunities for intellectual growth to well-prepared and highly motivated students. The committee considers for acceptance any freshman that enters college with an 1100 or higher SAT score (verbal and math) and a 3.25 high school GPA. Transfer students and Chowan rising sophomores must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA.

Honors classes provide opportunities for intensive class discussion and innovative teaching. Students who successfully complete the Honors College graduate with a special designation on their diplomas and transcripts.
