The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ tennis team finished in fifth place out of eight teams at the recent Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools tournament. Cape Henry Collegiate School won the event.

The Lady Saints finished ahead of Peninsula Catholic High School, Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School and Norfolk Christian High School, which had beaten NSA during the regular season.

Nansemond-Suffolk has been seeded seventh in the state, and the team will find out this weekend if it will continue on to states.

The opportunity to advance would be significant, NSA athletic director Betty Jean Riddick said.

“It’s been a very long time since the girls went,” she said.
