The top-seeded Nansemond River High School girls’ volleyball team advanced through to the Ironclad Conference 18 tournament championship on Wednesday night with a straight-sets win over visiting No. 4 Heritage High School: 25-15, 25-18, 25-20.
The Lady Warriors are now 16-2 for the season and remain unbeaten against conference opponents. This latest win qualifies them for the regional tournament.
“Everything’s still going as planned,” NR head coach Nicole Johnson said after the match.
Senior Tatyana Thomas led the team with nine kills and also had three blocks. Senior Rachel Kent contributed seven kills, eight digs and three aces, while junior Morgan Lowers added a little bit of everything with seven assists, five digs, two kills, two aces and one block.
Johnson praised Lowers for this all-around good play and highlighted Kent for important passing and defense that does not rack up statistics but was a big factor in the match’s final outcome.
Nansemond River will host No. 2 King’s Fork High School (11-10) in the conference tournament championship tonight at 5:30 p.m.
