Attempted murder charge dismissed

Most charges against a 30-year-old Suffolk man accused in an April 10 shooting were dismissed in Circuit Court on Friday.

Charles Douglas Hyman Jr., 30, was convicted of shooting in a public place in relation to the incident that took place on Fayette Street. However, charges of attempted murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, attempted malicious wounding and malicious shooting at an occupied vehicle were dismissed.

Police said at the time the incident involved a confrontation that escalated to several shots being fired at the victim as he was leaving in a vehicle.

Hyman was sentenced to 12 months in jail.
