Euell R. Williams

Euell Roger Williams, 90, died Nov. 8, 2013, at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation & Health in Suffolk. Born in New London, Conn., Mr. Williams was the son of the late Harry and Barbara Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ellis Williams, and sister, Carol W. Kimball, of Mystic, Conn.

He graduated from Bulkeley School in New London, Conn., and the Apprentice School of Newport News Shipbuilding, as well as graduating from MIT with a Bachelor of Science degree in naval architecture and engineering.  He retired as a marine engineer at Tenneco and worked as an accounting assistant for New Dominion Pictures.

Mr. Williams served as the first president of Suffolk Photography Club, board member and president of Nansemond-Suffolk Cotillion Club, board member and treasurer of Suffolk Art League, and a member of Suffolk Kiwanis Club. He was a past deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of several committees of West End Baptist Church. He was also a 15-year volunteer for Suffolk Meals on Wheels. His hobbies included photography, travel and ballroom dancing.

Surviving are his sons, David Williams, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Los Angeles, Calif., Roger Williams, of New Canaan, Conn.; stepdaughters, Lou Rachel Eure, of Suffolk, Rebecca E. Elswick, of Emerald Isle, N.C., Lila E. Pretlow, of Suffolk; grandchildren, Evan Williams, Spencer Williams, Denson House, Lila Rachel Elswick, Josh Pretlow III, Ellis Pretlow; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. J. Robert Pipkin Jr. and the Rev. T. Floyd Irby Jr. officiating. Friends may join the family after the service in the church fellowship hall.
