Suffolk police are seeking a man who allegedly fled from police when they tried to pick him up on a weapons charge Friday afternoon.
Warrants are on file for Johnathan Standaert, 23, of Suffolk, for brandishing a firearm, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, reckless driving, eluding police and driving while revoked, according to a press release from city spokesman Tim Kelley.
Police received a call at 2:07 p.m. to respond to the 300 block of Ash Wood Drive, Kelley wrote in the release. Standaert allegedly fled the residence prior to officers’ arrival.
When they located his vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop, he allegedly refused to stop and led officers on a short pursuit. The department decided to end the pursuit for the safety of the public.
Standaert is described as a light-skinned black male, 6 feet 2 inches tall and approximately 170 pounds. He is believed to be homeless and living in his vehicle, which is a silver Nissan with Virginia license plate WNZ-8263.
